In January 2011 several members from South Staffordshire Sailing Club decided to make the most of the cold wintery days and dark nights and set their minds on completing the RYA Day Skipper Theory course. As well as being extremely informative, doing it as a group, made it a fun way to learn the new skills. Working with Neill of Splash Adventure we were able to study at our own pace and bring in the experiences of each other.

The 2011 course was so successful that in November we arranged a VHF radio course which again, was very informative and doing it in our own club house made it a fairly relaxing day. In January 2012, the club arranged a Yachtmaster theory course for those Day Skippers with a little bit more experience and again, this proved to be a great way of learning and beating the winter blues.

Now that the warmer days are here again we are looking forward to getting out on to the water with Neill and putting all of the skills learnt to the test.

We will certainly be looking at what courses to arrange over the next winter to keep those people with a quest for knowledge satisfied.
